• · and . count as dots. — – − _ and - count as dashes. Open View details to inspect the original symbol, its replacement, and its position. Plain-text punctuation is handled separately, so your message is not silently rewritten.
Understands your separators
Spaces, tabs, newlines, and | separate letters; / separates words. Blank lines also create a word boundary. The tool records collapsed separators and asks you to check repeated spaces instead of assuming where a word begins.
Detects direction — and says so
The tool checks normalized signals before choosing a direction. Mostly Morse input with a stray symbol is kept in decoding mode so the error remains visible. You can select a direction yourself whenever the automatic choice does not match your intention.
Keeps errors visible
Unknown content becomes a placeholder rather than disappearing. Diagnostics connect the source position to the result. A long continuous run is flagged for missing boundaries; this version leaves the interpretation to you.

What is a Morse code translator?
A tool that converts text into Morse code (encoding) or Morse code back into text (decoding). This one runs entirely in your browser. It is free to use, with no sign-up and no paid tier. The reference below the tool lists every supported letter, number, and punctuation mark.
How do I use this Morse code translator?
Paste text or Morse into the box. Direction is detected automatically and shown above your result. If the direction is unclear, choose Text to Morse or Morse to text. Check any highlighted issues, then copy the result or play it as audio. The examples show both ordinary messages and messy input.
Can it handle Unicode dots and dashes?
Yes. Middle dots (·), bullets (•), em dashes, en dashes, minus signs, and underscores are recognized as Morse signals. They are normalized to standard dots and dashes with a visible record of each change. Your original input stays in the editor so you can compare it with the normalized code.
What separators can I use between Morse letters?
Spaces, tabs, newlines, and pipes (|) separate letters. A slash (/) or a blank line marks a word boundary. Extra separators are folded away and recorded. Repeated spaces are treated as a letter boundary and flagged for review: replace them with / if you intended a new word.
What happens to invalid or unknown characters?
An unsupported text character or invalid Morse token becomes a visible � placeholder. Open the issue list to inspect the affected source and result; select an issue to focus its original position. Other valid segments still translate. Copy preserves the placeholder. Playback and Swap stay unavailable until issues are resolved, so they cannot hide missing content.
Can it decode Morse code with no spaces?
A supported single token is read as one character. An unrecognized run of dots and dashes is flagged because letter boundaries may be missing. This version does not guess those boundaries or generate candidates. Add spaces between letters and / between words. Several different messages can share the same continuous signal sequence.
Does it play sound?
Yes. Play synthesizes Morse audio in your browser; it does not record your microphone or upload a file. Adjust the speed in words per minute (WPM) and the tone frequency, then press Play. Stop ends playback. Editing your message also stops it. Playback is limited to two minutes at the selected speed; translation is still available for longer messages.
Is my text sent to a server?
No. Translation happens locally in your browser. Cloudflare Web Analytics measures aggregate page visits and performance, but it never receives your input, results, or diagnostic details. Those stay in memory and are cleared when you reload or close the page. Only your speed, tone, and theme settings are saved on your device. The loaded page can translate without an internet connection.
